The star has handed over the full amount of his £25,000 Mercury Prize prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the Britain's grassroots live music spots.
He was presented with the prize on 16 October as his latest record People Watching was chosen as the top album of the previous year.
He has chosen to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function local spots played in his beginning days.
"I personally would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the area, and beyond, when I was starting out," remarked the artist. "These spaces are iconic, but they are facing challenges."
From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.
In the last year, major artists such as the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a modest fee to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.
Sam Fender also participated, generating over £100k on his recent tour to help numerous local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.
These funds assisted venues that were confronting imminent closure due to difficulties stemming from water damage, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and sound issues.
Other venues obtained financial assistance in modernizing amenities and gear that directly benefitted artists and fans.
"The idea that money from concerts in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," Fender has stated.
Fender is among several artists to donate his award winnings to good deeds.
Back when Pulp received the prize in the year 1996 for their album the album, vocalist Cocker stated that the act would contribute their cash to the organization the charity.
That year, artist Ms Dynamite divided her prize among a few charities, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.
"Additionally, I donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they needed new equipment," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.
Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their prize money to the community center that supported their act, in addition to other local music groups.
Additionally 1994 winners M People gave their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was identified with the condition.
"The victory was ample," stated artist the singer. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our winning affected the lives of others."
Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had rescued two grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.
One venue in Southampton and The Croft in that location were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is supported by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who purchase "shares" in the properties.
