The second-hand marketplace Users Voice Anger Regarding Sizing Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The popular resale platform has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Backlash
Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with similar services.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and manually change the size where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Updates
Previously, the sizes had both one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Member Stories
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
A different member, located in Scotland, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
Another shopper, located in England, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the service retracted a modification regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
